Superfoods that boost your health

Posted on November 16, 2022

Superfoods are foods that are packed with antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. This group includes most vegetables and a good proportion of fruit, especially berries.

Superfoods are very high in dietary fibre, but they also contain protein, carbohydrates, antioxidants and healthy fats. These foods can be a cure for protein and iron deficiencies, but they also contain lots of omega-3 fatty acids. They contain high levels of valuable nutrients and antioxidants that protect against many diseases. These include diabetes, heart disease and cancers.

Below are some of the superfoods that need to be consumed regularly to reap their benefits. One such superfood is chia seeds, which improve mood and also boost energy. It also contains many healthy ingredients such as omega-3 fatty acids, carbohydrates, proteins, fibre and calcium.

Chiamag increases levels of EPA in the blood, a fatty acid that protects heart health, but it also contains compounds that play a prominent role in regulating blood pressure.

Sesame seeds are also very high in plant fibre, which can help to lower cholesterol levels, minimising the risk of cardiovascular disease. It also contains beneficial amino acids such as methionine and cysteine. Sesame seeds are effective in lowering blood pressure and because they contain high amounts of calcium, they also protect bone health.

Because sesame seeds are low in carbohydrates but high in healthy fats, they are effective in regulating blood sugar levels. It is also effective in reducing oxidative stress in the body and thus reducing the risk of developing chronic diseases.

Flaxseed is also considered a superfood, providing high protection against breast, colon and prostate cancer. It is also rich in alpha-linolenic acid, which research has shown reduces the risk of stroke. Linseed oil is a very effective moisturizer, reducing skin sensitivity and promoting smoothness and softness.

Hemp seed reduces appetite, stabilises blood sugar levels and helps maintain gut health. Hemp seed oil helps to maintain heart health and is also very high in antioxidants, which protect the brain and heart from various types of damage, improve their function and also support cellular function.
