Fighting colds and coughs with simple home remedies

Posted on November 16, 2022

You can’t always avoid catching a cold, but if you do get sick, there are many home remedies that can help you recover much quicker and get back to work as efficiently as before.

If we have a cold, juice squeezed from fresh vegetables can go a long way to reducing our symptoms and helping the illness to pass more quickly. Freshly squeezed and pressed vegetable and fruit juices can be very useful for flu and colds, as they contain a lot of antioxidants.

When you are ill, the best thing to eat is a bowl of hot broth. Broths, bone broths and stocks contain nutrients that boost immunity and speed up the healing process.

Garlic is also unbeatable in boosting immunity, as its sulphur compounds make healing easier, whether it’s the flu or a cold.

Many people only know that ginger is one of the most effective anti-emetics. However, this pungent, spicy-tasting herb can also help you with other things when you have a cold or flu. The herb is also very good at reducing inflammation, so it can speed up the healing process in colds and flu.

When you are sick, the best thing to do is to sip hot herbal tea. Inhaling the warm steam from the hot tea can also relieve many symptoms, such as a runny nose or difficulty breathing, and the tea itself soothes the throat and helps you to get better sooner. The tea’s antioxidants help boost immunity. And if you want to boost the antibacterial properties of the tea, add honey. Honey also coats the throat and relieves sore throats.

In winter or autumn, if you want to avoid illness, all you have to do is eat plenty of oranges and other citrus fruits. Oranges are rich not only in vitamin C but also in citrus bioflavonoids, which are also great antioxidants and very good immunity boosters.
