People with allergies, asthma and other breathing difficulties suffer particularly badly at the change of season. The following herbs may be worth trying to combat the symptoms.

Coltsfoot

It can effectively clear the lungs and upper airways of congested mucus. It has cough-relieving and mucous-soothing properties. It can also be used for bronchitis , asthma, whooping cough and chronic cough. To make a cup of herbal tea, steep one to two teaspoons of dried martilla leaves for 15 minutes after boiling.

Fennel root

Native Americans have long used it to cleanse the airways and lungs. The root helps to kill harmful bacteria, remove excess phlegm and can even be used to relieve stomach problems. It is especially recommended for asthmatics and lung patients. Add a teaspoon of herbs to a cup of tea.

Medicinal parsnip

A popular ingredient in medicinal candies. Not for nothing, as it relaxes the muscles of the lungs and is very effective in relieving a spasmodic, persistent cough. It has a bitter taste and is good not only for the respiratory system but also for the stomach. Use a teaspoonful to a cup of tea.

Lobelia

Can be used for lung problems, coughs , infections and asthma. It helps to relieve upper respiratory spasms and loosen congested phlegm. As it is a very potent herb, it is advisable to check with your doctor about the recommended dosage before using it.

Medical Lungwort

It helps to clear the respiratory system, facilitates breathing and also helps to reduce mucous membrane irritation. It can also be used against bronchitis. Use one teaspoon of herb per cup of tea – drink three times a day.
