Healthy autumn snacks – roasted chestnuts, cinnamon apple crisps, vegetable crisps

Posted on November 13, 2022

Autumn is here, winter is coming and we tend to snack a lot. Then in spring we wonder why almost none of our clothes fit. Snacking is good. It’s nice to relax on the sofa under a plaid blanket, reading, watching movies, listening to music and snacking on yummy snacks. If we’re going to snack on snacks, why not try something healthy that’s nutrient-dense, low in calories and healthy too? We’ve got some great autumn snacks that are really non-fattening and a vitamin bomb for your body.

One of the best autumn snacks is popcorn, or popcorn as it’s more commonly known, which is high in fibre and low in calories. Popcorn is cheap and quick and easy to prepare.

Natural yoghurt is not only delicious, it is also creamy. It is a great alternative to cream or ice cream. You can also eat it with seeds, nuts and fruit.

Green ice chips are also a great snack for autumn and winter evenings. You can make them from potatoes, parsnips or carrots. All you have to do is slice the vegetables very thinly and place them on a baking tray lined with baking paper. Drizzle with olive oil, season and bake for 15-20 minutes over a medium heat.

You can also make apple crisps. For this, take 5 large apples. Preheat the oven to 100 °C. Scoop out the insides of the apples so that you can successfully remove the cores, then slice the apples very thinly – the thinner they are, the more crisp they will be. Place the apple rings on a baking tray lined with baking paper, sprinkle with cinnamon and bake until they are crispy. This should take about 2 to 2.5 hours, but you can have less or more.

Roast chestnuts are a favourite of many. Why not bake them at home? You’re guaranteed to create an autumnal atmosphere while your autumnal delicacies are roasting in the oven. Soak the chestnuts, drain them and cut a cross in the middle of each one, so that the shell will open easily. Line a baking tray with baking paper and place the chestnuts on top. Pour water into another baking pan and put this one in the oven. Bake at 200 degrees for 25 minutes and this delicious autumn treat is ready.
