We eat tomatoes almost only in the summer season, but research has shown that eating at least one ripe tomato every day is very healthy. Tomatoes can be eaten on their own, for breakfast, for dinner, and can be used to make so many different dishes. Be sure to eat them regularly, as they contain many valuable nutrients, including high levels of vitamin A, vitamin K, almost all B vitamins, vitamin C, iron, potassium, magnesium, chromium, choline, zinc and phosphorus.
Tomatoes have many health benefits, including a prominent anti-cancer effect. It contains high levels of a powerful antioxidant, lycopene, which regulates the growth of cancer cells and can be particularly helpful in the prevention of prostate cancer, stomach cancer and colon cancer. Not necessarily raw tomatoes, but cooked tomatoes will be best for us.
Tomatoes contain high amounts of vitamin C, a powerful antioxidant vitamin. Antioxidants protect against free radicals. You can also find vitamin A, iron and potassium in tomatoes. Potassium plays an important role in maintaining healthy nerves, iron helps maintain normal blood circulation and vitamin K promotes blood clotting.
Daily consumption of tomatoes can reduce oxidative stress caused by type 2 diabetes. It also reduces inflammation and tissue damage caused by complications of type 2 diabetes.
Tomatoes and smoking would probably never be mentioned at the same time. However, recent research suggests that regular daily consumption of tomatoes can reduce the damage to the body caused by smoking. In addition to lycopene, tomatoes also contain coumaric acid and chlorogenic acid, which may protect against the carcinogens in cigarette smoke.
Lycopene in tomatoes also protects heart health. It works very well with its other antioxidant partners, vitamin C, vitamin A and vitamin E. Lycopene may also reduce LDL cholesterol concentrations and thus plaque formation in the arteries. Not to mention that tomatoes are also rich in potassium, a mineral that reduces high blood pressure, which in turn protects heart health.
