Peppermint oil has been shown to be very effective in relieving itching. But this essential oil can also only be used in a carrier oil and should not be used on the face.
Calendula oil has an anti-inflammatory effect and also reduces pain and swelling. It is also specifically recommended for eczema, but a skin test should be carried out before use.
Borage oil can be used to soothe eczematous skin. It contains fatty acids that reduce the inflammation that occurs and builds up in the skin.
What carrier oils can be used? Examples include jojoba oil, which has excellent anti-inflammatory properties, reduces skin irritation and is also great for soothing the skin.
Coconut oil has antimicrobial properties, reduces inflammation and is very effective in healing dry and cracked skin.
One study involved people with eczema. The study lasted 2 months, during which time coconut oil was applied daily to the eczematous skin of the subjects. After two months, it was found that the extra virgin coconut oil had significantly improved the skin of all subjects.
Olive oil can also be used if you suffer from eczema as it not only reduces inflammation, but also contains a high amount of an antioxidant vitamin, vitamin E.
