Why sage is healthy

Posted on November 6, 2022

Sage is not only an easily available, healthy herb. Ancient Arabic medicine even attributed immortality to its regular consumption – but it’s certainly very healthy.

Why sage is healthy

Good for the memory

A British study has found that research subjects who regularly consumed sage oil performed much better on memory tests than those who received a placebo. This is particularly hopeful because there is a chance that sage may have some use in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease. After all, it contributes to brain health and improves cognitive function,” says care2.com in an article on the herb.

It acts on genes

Sage oil may also protect our genes from damage, as it contains compounds that can stimulate the healing of already damaged cells. Although its efficacy has not yet been tested in humans, animal studies show that sage could be an important player in gene therapy in the future.

Supports the hormonal system

Because it acts in a similar way to oestrogen, sage can help to balance hormones in the body of women who are menstruating, breastfeeding or about to go through menopause. It can alleviate symptoms of PMS and menopause, such as uncomfortable hot flashes. The best way is to inhale sage vapour or massage sage oil diluted with some base oil into the skin. Sage is also used to treat severe sweating and inflammation of the mouth and nasal cavities, but it can also be effective for stomach upset, bloating or increased gas formation. Fresh sage can be used to season a wide range of meat dishes and soups, and can also be made into tea.
